University of Kentucky
Assistant Professor
I am an assistant professor in the Department of Arts Administration at the University of Kentucky. I am a devoted educator and scholar who especially loves to study arts and cultural organizations and teach students about them. I am originally from South Korea where I got a BFA in painting from Yeungnam University. I also have an MA in Museum Studies from Syracuse University, an MPA from University of Georgia, and a PhD in Art Education from the Pennsylvania State University with an emphasis on museum education and management. While working on my PhD at Penn State, I managed a nonprofit teaching gallery, Edwin W. Zoller Gallery, where I coordinated with university units, faculty members, students, and artists.

My research interests center around systems theory and cultural diversity in arts and culture organizations, especially in museums. I enjoy writing and have published various articles in several journals including: Journal of Arts Management, Law, and Society; Museum Management and Curatorship; International Journal of the Inclusive Museum; Studies in Art Education; Qualitative Inquiry; and SAGE Research Methods Cases. More recently, I co-edited a book entitled, Systems Thinking in Museums: Theory and Practice. I strive to be an active participant in national and international academic and professional discussions through my presentations and publications.

I was trained to be a painter from a very early age but now I use textiles as my art-making medium and came to appreciate traditional art-making and crafts of sewing and knitting. I especially enjoy constructing garments such as jackets, coats, and dresses.
