Ben has over 25 years’ experience of producing events and running permanent and temporary venues in the cultural sector, working at all scales and on all sides of the business, from content development to staff and financial management. He has taught at Edinburgh University, the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Toi Whakarai (New Zealand) and Manchester Metropolitan University. As Artistic Director of Manchester’s Contact Theatre 1994-98 and Chair of the Scottish Arts Council Lottery Committee and a member of the SAC Board 2003 – 2010, he has wide management, strategic and capital project experience. He was Chair of Scotland’s leading contemporary classical music group Hebrides Ensemble and was Vice Chair of the Theatres Trust. As Director of Creative Carbon Scotland Ben runs carbon management, climate change adaptation and culture/SHIFT projects with festivals, theatres, galleries, orchestras and major cultural touring companies throughout Scotland, delivering training and building capacity within venues and organisations to prepare for and adapt to a low-carbon world.
